2012 Welcome February is the month that we all think of Valentine's Day. It is the month of LOVE! If you look up Valentine on the Net you will find all kinds of stories about how this day allegedly came into being. There is probably some truth behind the myths and legends. But I want to talk about the first TRUE Love Story. The one which we are all a product of…… “Beloved, let us love one another, for Love is from God‟ and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not Love does not know God, FOR GOD IS LOVE.” (1 John 4:7-8) “Beloved if God so loved us, we also ought to Love one another.” (vs 11) I know this sounds a little corny, but God is the first one to say to all of us: “Be Mine, Be My Valentine – I LOVE YOU!” We all understand love, we yearn for “unconditional love” which is the „agape‟ love of God. “ God so loved the world that He gave His Son …” How do I know God loves me? The answer is that Jesus was born out of God's heart of love, Jesus died on the cross as a demonstration of His Love. Love came, lived and died in the flesh because God Loves you and me. This is the Year of God's Love – 2010. The world still perverts that Love. In fact the world rejected that love, and we are still suffering in a world that has rejected that love to-day. The problem cannot be blamed on God's Perfect Love; rather, the problem is with a world that has rejected that love and instead settles for the fickle love of this world. As a famous song of my youth says: “what the world needs now is love sweet love”. As I watch our world groan in every aspect of its existence is not just „sweet love‟ but “TRUE LOVE”. As I look out at Springdale and this area, I have to ask myself: “What would our community look like if we who follow Jesus, did what Jesus told us to do: “This is my command, that you love one another just as I have loved you, so you love one another.” God doesn‟t expect that of those who have not experienced His Love. But those of us who name the name of Jesus; “Help us, enable us empower us to Love as You have loved us.” To be honest we often love only those who love us – when Jesus also told us “to love our enemies”, and show your-selves to be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect. Give us a great Valentines month and year and love like the One who first said: “I LOVE YOU – BE MINE” . In Awe of Him – who loved us with a perfect Love.
2011 It has been quite a while since I have written anything in Higher Elevations for Springdale and this area. I want to thank Deb for keeping me in her thoughts and prayers.
The Bible talks about people becoming so smart that they actually become foolish. The verse (Romans 1:22) “Professing to be wise, they became fools.” I feel like we truly live in a world that lives up (or down), to that statement. We have the worlds wisdom at our fingertips and our computers. We have libraries, books, a world of information in a two inch thick laptop computer. We have cell phones that have so many “apps” that we are texting, tweeting, calling, playing, blogging, and who knows what else, all while we are driving our car – oops, that is illegal now! My phone only rings, and I only talk in it to someone else who is talking to me. So even though I know, these words I don’t know how to do all that the phone is capable of. I am “ignorant” of all that it could do.
I have been thinking that a lot of us treat God like I do my cell phone. Acts 17 talks about worshipping an “unknown God”; and later states that “the times of ignorance is over”. God has made Himself known in the person of Jesus Christ, and has verified who Jesus is by the Resurrection from the Dead, which only Jesus Christ has done. Most of humanity knows about Jesus. Those of you who are reading this short article, have all heard about Jesus. Many of you have probably been to church and even been taught about Jesus.
But God said that we “worship in ignorance” if even Jesus is unknown. I know about a lot of people in history, but I did not know them. I have come to know intimately, the living Jesus Christ. I am not ignorant of the Jesus of the Bible, who died on the cross and who lives in heaven, and who is soon coming for His Church. Romans 5 says that if it took the death of Jesus to save us…..”much more” shall the life of Jesus save us from the wrath to come.
Do you “know” intimately Jesus Christ of Nazareth? But as Paul said in 2 Corinthians 11:3 “I am afraid, lest as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.” Some of you might know who Sonny Clemmer is? But few of you truly know me intimately. That is no big deal. But to not KNOW Jesus is a big deal. My admonition is to know Him. All religion is as “rubbish” compared to the glory of Knowing Jesus and His Righteousness”. Christianity only makes since when you know the One by whom we are named! Keep seeking Him. August 2009 Camas Valley Grange Had Illusionist & humorist, Dennis Zech & his wife Sandee. They have travelled throughout America & the world for the past 16 years showing the difference between truth and deception. How easy it is to be deceived? The question was answered, as we laugh and were amazed at the reality of how easy it is to be fooled. The Zech’s have a unique ability to combine comedy with magic to see the difference between mystery and truth. |
