The Heritage Network ~ Website The Heritage Network is comprised of museums, historical & genealogical societies, tourism groups, businesses and individuals and it strives to improve the awareness of historical characteristics of its membership and their representative communities. Truckin’ With Bubba and I Ain’t Bubba -read the whole article Local Waitts Lake resident and author Hal Howard announces the publication of his book, Truckin’ With Bubba and I Ain’t Bubba, , a humorous account of his experiences on the road teaching others how to drive a big rig and earn a Class A Commercial Drivers License. Hal spent the last five years of his twelve year trucking career as an instructor in the Prime School of Driving operated by Prime, Inc., of Springfield, Missouri, one of America’s largest long haul trucking companies. He earned its prestigious Instructor of the Year award in 2007 before retiring to Waitts Lake to write. What was your initial reaction to the book getting published? Answer: It was a bit euphoric like when I passed the bar exam a long difficult task had been accomplished. I always wanted to be a writer. I guess the lesson to be learned is, if you work hard enough and live long enough, your fantasies may come true. HAROLD L.(Hal) HOWARD (509) 937 4278 Email: halhwrd@gmail.com
The U.S. Postal Service -To celebrate and help draw attention to these unsung kings of the sky, the U.S. Postal Service will issue a stunning set of three-ounce rate stamps by featuring bird portraits by illustrator Robert Giusti. Appearing from the neck up will be the northern goshawk (Accipiter gentilis), peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), osprey (Pandion haliaetus), and northern harrier (Circus cyaneus). Read more: http://www.care2.com/causes/five-birds-of-prey-featured-on-new-usps-stamps.html#ixzz1iX5ZGD5a You’re not likely to see them at the bird feeder, but predatory birds, sometimes called raptors, are among the most breathtaking winged animals you’re likely to encounter in the wild. Unlike many of their more delicate relatives, birds of prey are carnivorous and use their powerful talons to capture prey. Their exceptionally keen eyesight allows them to see small objects in detail, even from a great distance. As predators high on the food chain, raptors play an important role in maintaining the balance of nature. Because they require vast tracts of land for successful hunting and nesting, human development is a large threat to the over 500 species of birds of prey. Loss of habitat means that surviving birds must hunt and build their nests closer to human populations where ATVs, pesticides, landfills and poaching post even greater threats.

Stevens County Cat Care - Website Cat Spay & Neuter Clinic 935-MEOW (935-6369) (FYI) March 27th was just an extra special day. It was a rainy Sunday in Springdale at the Camas Valley Grange. And although the number, 106, may have been our smallest clinic thus far this year, it was at this little community, where we’ve been numerous times before, that we fixed our 5,000th cat! Miss 5000th Kitty was a pretty little Siamese mix belonging to Stevens County Fire Fighter, Tom Brown. We are unsure if she actually enjoyed her stay with us or not, but we all agreed that her future looks more pleasant for both herself and her owners now that she is no longer able to reproduce. The celebration didn’t last long as the volunteers and veterinarians enjoyed a quick piece of cake and set to work on the 5,001st cat. Here’s to the next 5,000! Newsletter & Pictures |
