Pee Wee Rodeo Rules

Contestants may be either boys or girls who are at least (6) years of age and no more than (15) years of age as of January 1st of the current year. A special age group for Buck-A-Roos, ages for this age group are (3) to (5) years old. Each contestant will enter in his/her appropriate age group. No points, No premiums. Ties will be settled by flip of coin or run off, contestants choice.

 

Entry Deadline:   No $10.00 late fee on entries postmarked by July 23rd !! $10.00 late fee on entries postmarked from July 24th to July 28th  or

hand delivered entries to Fairgrounds Arena on July 29th from 6 p.m.  to 8:30 p.m. Absolutely no entries after these dates!

Rough Stock Events :  Longest rides will be scored in all rough stock events.

CHUTE AREA: contestants only behind the chute area. Qualified personnel provide help for rough stock contestants. Chute run on rough stock OR discretion of contractor, or chute boss. Helmets and vest MAY be available for contestants. NO RE-RIDES.

BRONC RIDING: Contestants will be allowed to use either hand or both hands in this event. All rides will be judged. Time will be six (6) seconds. NO SHARP SPURS WILL BE ALLOWED!

CALF RIDING: Contestants will be allowed to use either hand or both hands in this event. All rides will be judged. Time will be six (6) seconds. NO SHARP SPURS WILL BE ALLOWED!

MUTTON BUSTIN’: Contestants from three (3) to five (5) years old. Contestants will ride a wooly sheep out of the chute as in calf riding. No equipment is needed. Time will be four (4) seconds.

 

Timed Events :  All timed events require the contestants to be mounted on a horse.

BARREL RACING: A timed event with a flagman. Cloverleaf pattern run with the first turn to the right and the second and third turns to the left. May also be run with the first turn to the left and the second and third turns to the right. Failure to follow the pattern will result in a disqualification.

CAL. STAKE:  Buck-a-roo age division only. Contestant will be mounted on a horse, cross the starting line, go down to and around the pole and back across the start/finish line.

GOAT TAIL UNTYING:  Buck-a-roo age division only. Contestant ride down dismount horse untie a ribbon from the goats’ tail.

GOAT TAIL TYING: Boys/Girls Junior age division will ride horse down dismount horse and tie a ribbon on the goats’ tail. It is permissible to bring your own ribbon or the Rodeo Association will provide one for you.

GOAT TYING: Boys/Girls Senior age division will ride horse down dismount horse they will then throw the goat and tie any three legs with a piggin’ string or thong as in adult calf roping events. Bring your own! The goat must stay tied for three (3) seconds after the contestant signals that he/she is finished. NOTE: All goat tying divisions will require that you ride a horse. These events will be timed from the time that the Flagman drops the flag as you pass in front of him until the contestant signals he is finished, which then the Flagman will drop his flag for the time to stop. Contestants will have 2 minutes to tie/untie your goat.

POLE BENDING: For Juniors and Seniors. Rider will cross the starting line going straight down one side of the poles, turning the outside of the last pole then weaving in and out the remaining 5 poles heading towards the starting line. Without crossing the starting line turning around the last pole and weaving back through the poles coming out on the opposite side of the poles then racing straight back to the start/finish line.

STEER DAUBING: Seniors only. Contestant must start from the back of the box. Dauber works out of the heading box, hazer out of the healing box. Only designated Clayton Pee Wee Rodeo hazer may be used. No alternates allowed. Daubing baton provided. Time will start when the steer’s nose breaks the imaginary plane of the closed release chute. Time will stop when daub has been made and baton raised straight into the air. Pull up line will be ¾ way down the arena. Air horn will signal when line has been crossed without a successful daub. No more attempts allowed after pull up line. Steers used will have a circle on their left hip and daub must be within this circle. Contestant is allowed a single stab with the daubing baton to make their mark within the circle on the steers’ side. No smearing of mustard.

RIDE A BUCK:  Each contestant must have a horse to ride. This is a BAREBACK event. As you enter the arena, the gate person will collect $1.00 from you. You will be given a piece of paper of the approximate size of the dollar bill. The arena per son will place this piece of paper between the inside of your left leg and our horse. Once it is in place, you must not touch it or you will be disqualified for this event. The announcer will instruct you to ride your horse at a walk, trot and gallop, etc. The contestant that is able to keep his/her paper in place the longest will win all of the money collected in that section. There will be arena men to tell you when you have lost your paper. When they tell you that it is gone, you must immediately go to the center of the arena. Remember you cannot touch the paper with your hands once it is in place. No one will be allowed to compete in the event is any type of adhesive is used either on clothing or on the horse or on the paper that represents the dollar bill.

WESTERN LONG SLEEVE SHIRT, HAT/HELMET AND BOOTS REQUIRED

                                Contestants not following dress code will be asked to change apparel before entering arena.

Contestant parking designated on the fairgrounds. Riding of horses is allowed only in designated areas. No stalls available Sponsored by the Deer Park Fair Association. All fire lanes must be kept open. NO alcoholic beverages on the fairgrounds! All dogs must be kept in or tied to their own vehicle!
