Pastor’s Perspective
By Pastor Sonny

April 2009
April is here and I have to talk about Easter. The
most holy day of the Christian faith; the central truth of the Gospel is the
death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is here that the Christian
Faith stands unique in all the world religions.
God is love and He loved us so much that He sent His
Son Jesus Christ to die for every person who ever lived. Not all have accepted
this truth,” but to those who receive Him, to them He gave the right to become
the Children of God, to those who believe in His Name.” (John 1:12). Why is
such good news an offense to so many?
Several years ago I heard a man give four reasons
why:
1) The Cross
of Jesus Shocks our senses: I am that bad that God in the flesh had to take
that kind of pain for my sins. God loves me that much. My sins are that bad!
2) The Cross
of Jesus Mocks our values:
After all we do everything to make life easier. We do
everything to help our children have ease and comfort. Jesus left heaven to Die on the cross. “He became poor that we might become rich”.
Jesus lived and died for others (me and you). Suddenly I have to rethink my
values and try to “think like Jesus”.
3) The Cross
of Jesus Blocks our Pride:
I realize that the Bible is right when it says:
“there is none righteous, no not one” . “We have all
sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”I cannot
have pride when I look at the cross and see the horror of
the “price paid for my sin”. Sin is real and God is
holy. The Cross makes me deal with that truth.
4) The Cross
of Jesus Locks my heart:
Wow! God did this for me! “Greater love has no one
than this, that One lays down His life for His friends” (Jon 15:13). That is
exactly what Jesus did for all of us. Even when we were dead in our trespasses and
sins; when I was at my worst and there was nothing good in me – Jesus died on a
Cross for me & you. Wow!
And that is why I end all my articles and letters
stating a simple and profound truth:
IN AWE OF HIM
